hahlii
you can’t see the outlines of
her eyes beneath her niqab
but from within her pupils
glow purple — or orange? now
turquoise auburn constantly
shifting changing and piercing.
they see you, see your color.her paintbrush trails on skin
softer than canvas silky
words and flowering landscapes
pouring from her like clouds of
perfume-coated smoke. she sees
the color in everything
can differentiate theshade of one tree’s bark from the
next. but more than that — she can
feel the vibrancies colors
that jounce and jostle out of
the people she sees and loves.
she watches as they fade, dull.
all she can do is record.
